The Cute Report

Rhiannon Adelia Reinhard is a child of the 21st century: first blog at three; categorizes movies by format (e.g. DVD), figured out the CD player console by the age of two, and one of her favorite shows is the US version of The Office. Readers of The Cute Report will receive occasional posts of new, remarkable, and often funny events in the daily life of a now-five-year-old girl for whom beds still are for jumping and inanimate objects talk and have feelings (Disney-inspired animism, no doubt).

Shadow of the Easter Bunny

First, an apology to our dear reader as this is the first new post in three months. It's not that Rhiannon hasn't done anything cute. If anything, quite the opposite. In fact, her cuteness had made her mother and I apoplectic, catatonic, incontinent. It's all quite ugly, really, but as Rhiannon has slipped into Terrible Threes, Phase Two, we have been able to recover. But the cuteness has started again.

Rhiannon went with us to the Body Worlds 2 exhibit at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry earlier this month. She is now obsessed with blood and is also very curious as to how things work. We got her a kid's book at the library called Human Body that has lots of realistic wax models of people in cross-section. Rhiannon can handle most of it and asks questions, but still says the brain page "yucks me out".

On the page about blood there is a small, black-and-white movie still from Nosferatu, still the best vampire movie ever made. Rhiannon now knows the vampire's name. I told her that the picture was pretend and was from a movie to which she replied:

Rhiannon: I have not seen that movie.
Andrew: No, I don't think you have.
R: The Duffys have seen that movie. And the Petes. (neighbors/friends)
A: Maybe the Duffys have, but probably not the Petes.
R: Maybe the Easter Bunny will bring me that movie.
A: Maybe he will!

So there it is: my daughter wants a copy of Nosferatu for Easter.

To stem this Goth trend of hers, I made her promise me that she would never dye her hair black. We'll see....

Undead cuteness.

Papa (Andrew)
